Gary Reed Indoor Meet Success

As is often the case this time of year, training has been choppy, sometimes outside, but sometimes being forced to make do with lots of technical and strength work done indoors.   Wanting to see where our fitness was at, the Royals power/speed group took the opportunity to compete at the Gary Reed Indoor Meet at the beautiful Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, this past weekend.   Our group took advantage of the state-of-the-art facility competing in sprints, jumps and hurdles putting up some solid numbers and even a few personal bests.   Here’s the rundown:

Gurpartap Sandhu – strong showings in the triple jump, long jump and high jump with a PB in the 60meter hurdles

Sanaa Musonge – PB in the 60 meter hurdles, strong runs in the 60 sprint and 4 x 100 relay.

Luke Wight – PB in the 60 meter sprint, good run in the 4 x 100 relay and solid effort in the long and triple Jump.

Caleb Okoti – Excellent first indoor 200.   Strong run in the 4 x 100 relay.

Lillian Mandigo 60, 200, 300 –  Excellent first performances in the 60, 200 and 300 meter sprints.

Will Van Schagen – Great effort in his first indoor 400 and 800.  Solid run in the 4 x 100 relay.

Gurmin Sandhu – Great job in the 60 hurdles and shot put.

Well done, team.   -Coach Trevor

Canadian Cross Country Championships Success

A big congratulations goes out to our nine athletes from the Valley Royals Distance Group who represented us at the Canadian Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Ottawa Ontario.
Maggie Epp, Zoe Unger, Adrianna Buitelaar, Riley Simmonds, Sam May, Santos Svelander, Mark Molina, Miles Graham, and Arata Nakanishi took on the best in our Country on a frosty day at Terry Fox athletic facility in Mooney’s Bay. Sam May and Adrianna Buitelaar led the way with top 20 finishes in the U18 men’s and women’s races that had over three hundred and two hundred and seventy five runners respectively. Miles Graham moved to a new level with an outstanding 46th position finish in the U 18 race and all of our runners represented us proudly in what was for most their first Cross Country experience at the National Level.

Well done Royals. – Coach Scott
