Athlete News…

Unfortunately we just received news that Alexandria Siemens cross country season has come to an end.  A second year student at University of Idaho, Alex was just beginning to gain form when she incurred a leg injury.  “After the last race I started getting some pain in my lower back and glute, and as the week progressed, the pain got worse,” stated Siemens.   Hopefully Alex will recover from her injury shortly and be able to begin preparation for the indoor track and field season.

Allison Jackson is a former Valley Royal runner and is now a member of the cross country and track teams at Trinity Western.  Allison placed second at the BC Cross Country Championships held at Clearbrook Park.   Allison has received some very good news as she has been selected to the Canadian Short Course Triathlon team.  As always, Allison is balancing her studies, running and other athletic training that is all part of the life of a collegiate triathlete.   This summer she will be touring the world with the Canadian Short Course team.

Valley Royals athletes Oliver Jorgensen and Travis Vugteveen are leaders of the SFU Cross Country team that will be in Monmmouth, Oregon Saturday morning to contest the GNAC conference championships.  At present the SFU men’s team is ranked sixth amongst the 10 conference teams and the Clansmen will have to fight hard to find success on Saturday. Regardless of their performances at the conference meet all GNAC teams are eligible to compete in the NCAA West Regionals Nov. 22 at Amend Park in Billings, Mont.  Six men’s teams and six women’s teams from the regional qualify for the NCAA National meet Dec. 6 at Louisville, Kentucky. Individuals can qualify by placing Top 25.

The BC High School Cross Country Championships will also take place this Saturday in Victoria.  A good number of VR athletes will make the ferry trip across the water to partake in the largest (by numbers) of all the BC High School Championships.  A results update will be printed on this site next week.
